A new exhibit opened in Tokyo, running through March 8 “Forever Saul Leiter”. Showing 200+ previously unseen b/w, color and water colors. A fantastic show that had a real impact on me. They had a full wall size slide show that was sensational. Take aways include:
Framed prints are the goal for me, not shooting for Instagram.
Sauls’ color work is superb, some subtle many bold.
He shot the local neighborhood, friends and family.
Often with a voyeur viewpoint as he was super at shooting through glass, windows, etc.
Many times not showing a full story or person but just a small snippet in a larger scene.
He shot for himself, not to match others.
Pro tip: A lot to think about, I will review the book purchased at the exhibition.
